In this article we will learn about the java data types.

Variable is a memory location where we can store the data. There are three types of variables: local, instance and static. There are two types of data types in java, primitive and non-primitive.

Data Types in Java

In general every programming language is containing three categories of data types. They are

• Fundamental or primitive data types
• Derived data types
• User defined data types.

Primitive data types

Primitive data types are those whose variables allows us to store only one value but they never allows us to store multiple values of same type. This is a data type whose variable can hold maximum one value at a time.

Boolean Data Type

Boolean data type takes zero bytes of main memory space because Boolean data type of java implemented by Sun Micro System with a concept of flip – flop. A flip – flop is a general purpose register which stores one bit of information (one true and zero false).

Default Values

It’s not always necessary to assign a value when a field is declared. Fields that are declared but not initialized will be set to a reasonable default by the compiler. Generally speaking, this default will be zero or null, depending on the data type. Relying on such default values, however, is generally considered bad programming style.

User Defined Data Type:

Typedef

A typedef associates a name with another data type. Here is the syntax of an IDL typedef:

The type can be any basic IDL data type, a user-defined data structure

Data structure: It’s a way in computer science to organize data properly in such a way that we can use data efficiently.

What is Queue?

Queue is also an abstract data type or a linear data structure, in which the first element is inserted from one end called REAR (also called tail), and the deletion of existing element takes place from the other end called as FRONT (also called head). This makes queue as FIFO data structure, which means that element inserted first will also be removed first.

Like Stack, Queue is also an ordered list of elements of similar data types.

A queue is a particular kind of abstract data type or collection in which the entities in the collection are kept in order and the principal (or only) operations on the collection are the addition of entities to the rear terminal position, known as enqueue, and removal of entities from the front terminal position, known as dequeue. This makes the queue a First-In-First-Out (FIFO) data structure. In a FIFO data structure, the first element added to the queue will be the first one to be removed. This is equivalent to the requirement that once a new element is added, all elements that were added before have to be removed before the new element can be removed.

Real Example of Queue:

A queue at window of movie-ticket. The person who is standing first, its turn comes first, he/her comes first out.

Queue can be implemented using an Array, Stack or Linked List. The easiest way of implementing a queue is by using an Array. A bounded queue is a queue limited to a fixed number of items.

One characteristic of a queue is that it does not have a specific capacity. Regardless of how many elements are already contained, a new element can always be added. It can also be empty, at which point removing an element will be impossible until a new element has been added again.

Fixed length arrays are limited in capacity, but it is not true that items need to be copied towards the head of the queue.

Operations –

1. createQueue Operation– This operation takes the maximum number of elements (maxElements) the Queue can hold as an argument, creates a Queue according to it and returns a pointer to the Queue.
2. Enqueue Operation – This Operation takes the pointer to the top of the queue Q and the item (element) to be inserted as arguments. Check for the emptiness of queue.
3. Dequeue Operation – This Operation takes the pointer to the top of the stack S as an argument and will then dequeue an element.
4. Front function – This function takes the pointer to the top of the queue Q as an argument and returns the front element of the queue Q.

Queue overflow results from trying to add an element onto a full queue and Queue underflow happens when trying to remove an element from an empty queue.

SQL is a database computer language designed for the retrieval and management of data in relational database. SQL stands for Structured Query Language.

SQL- Structured Query Language is a special-purpose programming language designed for managing data held in a relational database management system (RDBMS), or for stream processing in a relational data stream management system (RDSMS).

SQL is used to communicate with a database. According to ANSI (American National Standards Institute), it is the standard language for relational database management systems. SQL statements are used to perform tasks such as update data on a database, or retrieve data from a database. Some common relational database management systems that use SQL are: Oracle, Sybase, Microsoft SQL Server, Access, Ingres, etc.

SQL was one of the first commercial languages for Code’s relational model, as described in his influential 1970 paper, “A Relational Model of Data for Large Shared Data Banks.”. Despite not entirely adhering to the relational model as described by Codd, it became the most widely used database language.

 The standard SQL commands such as “Select”, “Insert”, “Update”, “Delete”, “Create”, and “Drop” can be used to accomplish almost everything that one needs to do with a database. This tutorial will provide you with the instruction on the basics of each of these commands as well as allow you to put them to practice using the SQL Interpreter.

A database most often contains one or more tables. Each table is identified by a name (e.g. “Customers” or “Orders”). Tables contain records (rows) with data.

In this tutorial we will use the well-known North wind sample database (included in MS Access and MS SQL Server).

For example, to display data from database, select command is used,

SELECT * FROM Customers;

The most common operation in SQL, the query, makes use of the declarative SELECT statement. SELECT retrieves data from one or more tables, or expressions. Standard SELECT statements have no persistent effects on the database. Some non-standard implementations of SELECT can have persistent effects, such as the SELECT INTO syntax provided in some databases.

SQL keywords are NOT case sensitive like any other c language: select is the same as SELECT

C is a programming language originally developed for developing the UNIX operating system. It is a low-level and powerful language.

To start coding in c, first you should install Turbo C.

Install Turbo C++:

Download Turbo c++ for window.

Step 1: Locate the TC.exe file and open it. You will find it at location C:\TC\BIN\.

Step 2: File > New (as shown in above picture) and then write your C program.

All the C programs are written into text files with extension “.c” for example Welcome.c.

C Compilers

When you write any program in C language then to run that program you need to compile that program using a C Compiler which converts your program into a language understandable by a computer. This is called machine language (i.e. binary format). So before proceeding, make sure you have C Compiler available at your computer. It comes along with all flavours of UNIX and Linux.

You can ask your system administrator or you can take help from anyone to identify an available C Compiler at your computer.

If you don’t have C compiler installed at your computer then you can use below given link to download a GNU C Compiler and use it.

If you are working over UNIX or Linux then you can type gcc -v or cc -v and check the result. Then you have to write coding in VI editor.

Let us see one simple c language example.

Step 5: Press Ctrl + F9 to Run (or select Run > Run the C program.

Compile and Run C program using gcc compiler

We can also do the same using gcc compiler.

Following are the steps for that.

Step1: Prepare Source code Welcome.c (file saved with .c extension)

Step 2: Compile the source code.

>gccWelcome.c –o  Welcome

Step 3: Run the compiled program.

Once you give the above command a .exe file would have been created.
