What is variable?

Variable is a memory location where we can store the data.

Why need variable?

In programming we can't use data directly. We have to store the data first(on which we are going to process) in memory . This memory is allocated as per Data Type.

Features of Variable:

The variable can store single data at a time.
We can Update the data stored in variable.

Rules for Variable Name:

First letter should be start with alphabet.
No any symbol like * , dash, Hash, space should be used except underscore.
i.e roll-no , employee name , jan#sal etc.. invalid name.

valid name of variable:

rollno, a, emp1, salary etc.

Syntax of Variable:

Data Type Variable name;

i.e int a;

The process of allocating memory during program execution is called dynamic memory allocation.

DYNAMIC MEMORY ALLOCATION FUNCTIONS IN C:

C language offers 4 dynamic memory allocation functions. They are,

malloc ()

calloc ()

realloc ()

free ()

Syntax:

1. malloc () function is used to allocate space in memory during the execution of the program.
malloc () malloc (number *sizeof(int));

2. calloc () function is also like malloc () function. But calloc () initializes the allocated memory to zero.

calloc () calloc (number, sizeof(int));

3. realloc ()

realloc is used to update size of data.

realloc (pointer_name, number * sizeof(int));

4. free ()

free is used to release the memory allocated by malloc and calloc function.

free (pointer_name);

The Friend function and friend class in C++ are the techniques used to access the private members of a class by using friend keyword.

Difference:

Friend function is a function used with a friend keyword to grant a non-member function access to the private members of a class.

Friend class is a class used with a friend keyword to access the private members of another class.

Use:

A friend function can be used in some situation of operator overloading.

A friend class can be used when a class is created on the top of another class.

The first condition is that friend function is not inherited by a child class. The second condition is that storage class specifier may not be present in friend function, which means that it cannot be declared as static and extern.

The friend class can be declared in more than a single class. It is considered as a short alternative method for friend function because with the help of this we can create a friend class which can access the whole data members and function instead of creating multiple friend functions.

A friend function is required when a function needs to access two or more independent classes, internal members. On the other hand, a friend class is needed when a class requires accessing the members of another class. When a multiple member function needs to be a friend of that function, in that case, it is better to use friend class.

C is a middle level programming language developed by Dennis Ritchie while working at AT&T Bell Labs in USA.
 
The objective of its development was in the context of the re-design of the UNIX operating system to enable it to be used on multiple computers.

Earlier the language B was now used for improving the UNIX system. Being a high level language, B allowed much faster production of code than in assembly language.
 
Still, B suffered from drawbacks as it did not understand data-types and did not provide the use of “structures”.

To overcome the drawbacks Dennis Ritchie develop a new programming language called C.

C language is not tied to any particular operating system. It can be used to develop new operating system.

The C programs are efficient, fast and highly portable. i.e. C programs written on one computer can be run on another with more or almost no modification.

What is pointer?

Pointer is a variable used to store address of another variable in programming language .

What is the use of Pointer?

The importance of pointers comes with the use of functions. For an example think you code a function to add two values and assign it to the first value. I'll show you how to do it with and without pointers.

Without pointer
int adder(int a, int b){
return a+b;
}
void main()
{
int c = 5;
int d = 6;
c = adder(a,b);
}

So here no use of pointers and this method of using functions is called as call by value. Here value of c 5 and value of d 6 is passed to function adder as a and b and return the value.

So, you should use pointers any place where you need to obtain and pass around the address to a specific spot in memory.

Coding a data structure such as linked list. Without the use of pointers, this becomes an impossible task with C.

Pointer is used to allocate dynamic memory.

Pointers allow you to refer to the same space in memory from multiple locations. This means that you can update memory in one location and the change can be seen from another location in your program.

C Programming can manage its stack memory. But it does not track your use of the heap. You have to do that. For every malloc () you do, have a corresponding call to free (), when you are done with the memory.

The general idea is everything which you’ve allocated dynamically (i.e. through something like malloc) is your program’s responsibility to release (i.e. free). Anything it doesn’t free is going to be a memory leak - i.e. as the program keeps running it may be allocating new parts, but it “forgets” to release them once it’s done with those parts.

Whenever you use dynamic allocation (you call malloc or calloc), you need to: 1st check if the returned pointer is not NULL and if not then, 2nd, call free when you no longer need the allocated memory. You must make sure that, until that time, you do have access to the pointer (you don’t “forget” the allocated memory address).

Compiler !!! if you are unknown to this word then first understand what is Compiler?

Generally any programming Language written in related Editor, which is called source code. This Source code always written in High Level Language, but machine can't understand this high level language . It understand only low level language. Compiler covert high level programming language to low level programming language. As well as it checks syntax of source code into the Editor.

So, in short Compiler works like intermediate.

There are many Compilers to compile the source code. Which one is the best?

There are two C++11 (or C++14) compliant free software compilers: GCC and Clang/LLVM.

Both are command line programs. GCC is able to optimize slightly better, and Clang is giving slightly better warnings. You probably want to also use a build automation tool like GNU make. If you install then use some Linux distribution (very developer friendly and mostly made of free software), you’ll have very easily a lot of build tools (including the ones I have mentioned). Intel's ICC is nice. Intel's compiler has C++ support and you can't disable that.

Some compilers support newer features (C++11, C++14), but some don't. GCC is free, as is Clang. But ICC is not free, unless you are a student in which case you can get a license.
