Cookies in Java are text files stored on the client computer and they are kept for various information tracking purpose. Java Servlets transparently supports HTTP cookies . There are three steps involved in identifying returning users − Server script sends a set of cookies to the browser.



The two types of cookies follow:

  • Session cookies – Session cookies are stored in memory and are accessible as long as the user is using the web application .
  • Permanent cookies – Permanent cookies are used to store long-term information such as user preferences and user identification information.
