Beware of malware Judy in Android Smartphone

Researchers at security agency Check Point have found a malware, dubbed Judy, on about 50 apps in Google’s Play Store. The apps contain code that sends infected devices to a target webpage, where they generate fraudulent clicks on the site’s adverts to make money for its creators. The infected apps have been removed from the Play Store.

More than 90% of smartphones in India run on the open Android OS, leaving them vulnerable to the malware, which security firm Checkpoint said has already infected over 36 million smartphones across the world through 41 apps. 

India is the top country for Google in terms of downloads from Google Play, surpassing the US in 2016, with over 6 billion apps downloaded, up from 3.5 billion the year before, as per an App Annie report. 

Judy is a new malware that has affected between 8.5 million to 36.5 million users, according to Check Point Research Team. Though Google is removing infected apps from the Play Store, it is important you take measures to protect your Smartphone.
