What is search Engine Optimization?
Search
engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of
a website or a web page in a web search engine's
unpaid results — often referred to as "natural," "organic,"
or "earned" results.
SEO is a
technique which helps search engines find and rank your site higher than the
millions of other sites in response to a search query. SEO thus helps you get
traffic from search engines.
Search
engine optimization is a methodology of strategies, techniques and tactics used
to increase the amount of visitors to a website by obtaining a
high-ranking placement in the search results page of a search
engine (SERP) -- including Google, Bing, Yahooand other search engines.
SEO is
typically a set of "white hat" best practices that webmasters and Web
content producers follow to help them achieve a better ranking in search engine
results.
SEO isn't
just about building search engine-friendly websites. It's about making your
site better for people too.
Search
engines crawl the Web to see what is there. This task is performed by
a piece of software, called acrawler or a spider (or Googlebot,
as is the case with Google). Spiders follow links from one page to another and
index everything they find on their way.

In search
engine optimizationterminology, white hat SEO refers to the usage of
optimization strategies, techniques and tactics that focus on a human audience
opposed to search engines and completely follows search engine rules
and policies.
White Hat
SEO is more frequently used by those who intend to make a long-term investment
on their website. Also called Ethical SEO.
The majority
of web traffic is driven by the major commercial search engines, Google, Bing,
and Yahoo!. Although social media and other types of traffic can generate
visits to your website, search engines are the primary method of navigation for
most Internet users.
Search
engines are smart, but they still need help. The major engines are always
working to improve their technology to crawl the web more deeply and return
better results to users.
SEO also
helps boost rankings so that content will be placed where searchers will more
readily find it. The Internet is becoming increasingly competitive, and those
companies who perform SEO will have a decided advantage in visitors and
customers.
The
landscape of SEO and link building is always changing, and today, the
importance of building high-quality links has never been higher.
